December Sun

It has been a fine, fine December here. We have snowstorms rolling in tomorrow and I spent most of this day outside, enjoying the sunshine and the lack of mud, tending to some chores, and then I saddled up and rode Coulee out along the river. I love where I live so much and I try to go outside and spend some time enjoying this place every single day…otherwise, what’s the point of living here?

  1. Agreed: I love where I live so very much, so I am out every day, on the land. Otherwise, what’s the point of living here?

Sheesh. I can see why you’re falling for that Coulee gal. I’m getting a crush on her from all the way over here! What a graceful, spirited beauty she is!

  3. Coulee strikes me as a determined, spirited, eager gal who takes no sass but wants to please. She’s a beaut and is so lucky to be part of your farmily.

    • She’s a couple of those things but hopefully she’ll be all of them in the months to come! I’m doing a lot of work with her. She came to us pretty insecure with a really hardened mouth and body. We’re slowly softening her up, helping her to learn to be responsive to pressure again (by rewarding her with release of pressure when she does what we ask her to do), and I’m riding her alone a lot to help her build confidence. She’s a fun girl!

  5. Oh man I miss Idaho. I grew up there but I live all the way in Nova Scotia. what I miss the most is the open land. I find it hard to ride here as all the land is chopped up into tiny pieces.

    • How the heck did you wind up in Nova Scotia! I have the same complaints about Saskatchewan, where I grew up. A lot of land is private. You can ride your own property or ride ditches.
