We were at the Rocky Mountain Sled Dog Championship Races today, outside of Soda Springs, Idaho. The weather was beautiful. The dogs were tearing it up! It was a wonderful celebration that honored the sport of mushing in the very best way. I’ve been obsessed with dog power for a few years now and being able to watch these races only makes the obsession worse. All day long I’ve been trying to convince Robert I need one or two more German shorthaired pointers so I can complete a skijor team or small sled team. We’ll be out again tomorrow watching the races and later in the afternoon, I’ll be competing in the skijor race. If I win, I will be a skijorista (Or is that skijoritista? I can never get the jargons for anything quite right…). Wish me luck! Tater Tot is going to pull like a brute. He’s lucky I am light as a feather.

Have the best time racing!! Great shots- the Quest starts next week, and I can’t wait for them to hit town- watching dogs pull their hearts out can’t help but make you excited.

So so cool! There is something similar, the Copper Dog 150, here in February. I’ve seen pictures of it over the years and cannot wait to see it in person, hopefully even as a volunteer, this year.

Wow! What a fun event to get to see up close. My brother-in-law is a handler for the Streeper Kennels up in Fort Nelson, BC. I’m sure you saw some of his doggies out there, tongues lolling and big ol’ grins on their faces! Best of luck to you and Farley and the Tater Nation in the Skijor races tomorrow!! Awesome! Used to skijor as a kid with a supersized Samoyed and an overexcited Border Collie, and also used to watch husky teams tear it up dog sledding (always wanted my own team). Live in Australia now so this post made me super homesick!
