[Sketching Spring Necklace :: sterling silver]

You’ve done it again.  Your support has helped us over the hump of winter, fed us, clothed us, paid our mortgage, put fuel in our trucks, fed our dogs their kibbles, the cat his tuna and our chickens their grub.  The best way I know how to say thanks is to do a giveaway and to say, thank you, until you know I really, deeply, truly mean it.

Thank you.

So much.

For all you do.

Thank you for reading this blog, for claiming my work (big pieces or small), for the encouraging notes you send me by mail, email, Etsy convo (sorry it takes me so long to respond, I really am the worlds worst emailer).  Thanks for telling me to write a book or to publish a collection of prose and poetry.  Gosh.  Thanks for that.  This is one of my main goals this summer, hold me to it.  Most of all, thanks for being just who you are because there are times when I think of you, or I read your comments on a blog post, and I really feel warm inside and understood and received and like my views and my lifestyle and the very who of me is respected and cherished — whether you live your life similarly or not — and that’s the sort of thing that makes me want to continue in this work and continue sharing my life with you in all the ways that I can.  You are courageously openhearted and open minded.  I’m proud of you for that.  You are part of a beloved community here and having you in my world, in our world, is a blessing.  All day long.  Every day.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR GIVEAWAY ENTRY:

If you would like to enter your name in the drawing for this Sketching Spring Necklace, please simply leave a comment on this blog post.  You can say anything you would like to say.  I would love to know the title of the best book you have read recently or the name of the album you are playing on repeat lately.  If you are shy, just say “Hi!”  There aren’t any rules.

I’ll randomly draw a winning name as soon as I am settled in the Methow Valley, at our summering grounds.  As always, my giveaway packages are little care packages so be prepared for the arrival of a bevy of love in your mailbox if you are the winner.  PLEASE NOTE:  If your comment does not appear in the comment section immediately it’s because it’s sitting in my behind-the-scenes comment moderation area and I’ll publish it as soon as I have an internet connection up and running once more.

Until then, with abiding affection,

The Noisy Plume

  1. Hello, beautiful Jillian, you generous soul.

I haven’t been reading many books lately or listening to much music, but I can share one thing: if you don’t already have a blender for smoothies, I’ve been obsessed with my Nutribullet. Smoothies every day! One favorite: kale, small & sweet fresh strawberries, frozen mango, and a tablespoon of flaxseed.

    xoxo

  2. Hi Jillian! Love seeing your photos on Flickr and I wish you were on Instagram! Unless maybe you’re hiding in there somewhere under another name. 🙂 ~jenna

Golly o’gee, That is a divine little give-a-way. In MN it is finally spring here too. So slow this yr. 15 inches of snow on May 2nd. School even closed. Now, the tulips and daffodils are finally smiling at me. The birds are in abundance at the feeders and i can’t wait for our first camping trip. No more reading books for this girl. Outdoors full speed ahead!! Happy Trails my friend. Sunshine & giddy smiles. kim

  4. oohhh! hi!

  5. I am re-reading the Outlander series which I found thanks to you! Such a lovely piece! Have a wonderful Summer.

  6. Hi J
    you rock. thats all 😛

  7. Oh goodie! Your “sketching” line is so beautiful. I’d love to win! Lately I can’t stop listening to the Of Monsters and Men album, “My Head Is an Animal.”

  8. HELLO from Chicago!

  9. Best book I’ve read in quite some time: Still Points North. Loved it and love you Plume!

  10. Oh oh!! Pick me!!!

Today is my RW’s (Ronald William) birthday. 🙂 we are celebrating with ribs on the grill, roasted sweet potatoes, and cold beer. And I made ice cream pie too.

Recently loved The Night Circus. Positively phenomenal book.
I have Kings Of Leon “Because of the Times” on repeat and I think I’m going to get Lana Del Ray this weekend too.

  11. It is snowing here today. So sad. Tomorrow is my birthday and I usually celebrate by planting my garden, but not this year. The birds are singing their little hearts out having just arrived and desperate to start pairing up. I’ve been listening to Lord Huron’s album because I listened to it when we were in South America a month ago and it makes me feel like I am back there. I recently finished Maureen Johnson’s two Shades of London books, funny and slightly creepy.

  12. I just received the Grimm’s Fairy Tales (Taschen), its beautifully illustrated and my husband and I are enjoying reading these classics as much as our daughters. Safe travels.

  13. Hi! I’m shy…

  14. dearest
    beautiful
    jillian

i want to take this opportunity to THANK YOU BACK!!
thank YOU for adding SUCH PRECIOUS BEAUTY to the world through being YOU….through what you create with your hands…and i deeply hope that you will set those plans of writing into life… when i think of you BEAUTY is one of the first words that comes to my mind and now that made me think of these words that i read just the other day:
“Perhaps it is beauty that will save us in the end.” – Dostoevsky
i would absolutely LOVE to share with you the BEST book i have read lately, it was one of those few that you just know that you will carry with you in your heart forever…i cried when it was over…i didn’t want to let go of it:
“The art of hearing heartbeats” by Jan- Philipp Sendker.
    and
listening to the album wilderness by alfred hall
    and
    reading poetry by scandinavian artists,
like this one by the swedish karin boye:

    YES, OF COURSE IT HURTS

Yes, of course it hurts when buds are breaking.
Why else would the springtime falter?
Why would all our ardent longing
bind itself in frozen, bitter pallor?
After all, the bud was cover all the winter.
What new thing is it that bursts and wears?
Yes, of course it hurts when buds are breaking,
    hurts for that which grows
    and that which bars.

Yes, it is hard when drops are falling.
Trembling with fear, and heavy hanging,
cleaving to the twig, and swelling, sliding –
weight draws them down, though they go on clinging.
Hard to be uncertain, afraid and divided,
hard to feel the depths attract and call,
yet sit fast and merely tremble –
    hard to want to stay
    and want to fall.

Then, when things are worst and nothing helps
the tree’s buds break as in rejoicing,
then, when no fear holds back any longer,
down in glitter go the twig’s drops plunging,
forget that they were frightened by the new,
forget their fear before the flight unfurled –
feel for a second their greatest safety,
    rest in that trust
    that creates the world.

    LOVE

I love your blog and your jewelry! It’s all very inspirational. I am almost through reading The Shack. It’s not usually the kind of book I read but it’s blowing my mind (in a good way). I am also loving the Monsters of Men album.

  16. Jennifer says

Hi! Yay for a giveaway! I recently read Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, and loved it 🙂

  17. Sadly, I haven’t read any books I am super excited about lately:(. But, I love this necklace. I stalked your shop when you revealed it, but I never saw it for sale, so I would die to win it! Good luck on your move!

  18. Your sweet post put a smile on my face today which has not been an easy task. You have created such a warm, inviting, joyous little space here. As far as music goes, have you heard of Delta Rae? They’re pretty awesome. They have a great unique sound.

  19. I hope you have a safe trip and find happiness in settling into your newest of homes for the year. All of your work is inspiring as well as extremely imaginative and thoughtfully created. I look forward to seeing what you come up with once you are able to work again after your move.

    • PS: I’m Loving the Lumineers and Of Monsters and Men these days with a bit of Waylon Jennings thrown in to spice things up!

  20. Good luck on the upcoming move. I would love to check out the shop once you get settled in. I recently read The Sense of an Ending and found it really complex and interesting. I blasted through it, because it was just so good, but I recommend taking it slower than I did. You’ll get so much more out of it that way.

  21. You are so sweet! Thanks for doing a giftaway! Reading your words and seeing your pictures helps keep me going through the day while I am living out cubicle life… Can’t wait to be done for the day to get my hands in some dirt this weekend! Good luck with your move and setting in.

    • Oh and my current soundtrack is the music from Nashville. I haven’t had much time for reading recently, but just picked up Madeline Albright’s autobiography last night.

  22. I can’t wait to see the photos you take this summer!

Wild by Cheryl Strayed – Just finished this one and it is phenomenal. She is a storyteller like no other.

  23. Ooh so lovely, girl! I’m always happy to see a new post from you *big smiles*
Currently, I haven’t started any new-to-be books, but I’m always re-reading through Spiritual Midwifery. I adore Ina May.

  24. Sarah Pavelko says

And thank you for sharing your life and so many good suggestions like the outlander series. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!

  25. Hi :o)

  26. I recently read “An Everlasting Meal: Cooking with Economy and Grace” and it has changed my thought. Most of all, it has freed me up and broken some of the meal boxes that I (we) tend to get used to or think appropriate. I love her holistic stance. Good meals needn’t be complicated or hard – which is refreshing to hear amidst a lot of our food culture. I’ve always loved meal prose in fiction (thinking back on Little House on the Prairie) so this was a delight to read.

  27. Thank you for sharing so much of who you are with us. As I’ve grown to know you over these past few years, I’ve shared in your joy, cried at your heartbreaks, rejoiced in your successes and continue to be joyful and proud of you for your growth as an artist and human. Love you.

  28. We just signed up for the summer reading contest at our local library and today is our first day of summer break. Yee haw! I love reading kids books! I would also love to win this beautiful necklace. It has a timeless beauty about it.
Safe travels to you and yours and we’ll check in to see what new beauty you create this summer!

  29. Hi, I love your prose, photos, jewelry…..in fact I have started to make my own jewelry and I love doing it after seeing yours. My next great challenge will be photography…I am saving up for my camera and classes!! Please add me for the possible necklace present…..thanks

  32. Thank you for making us better..you are a lovely part of my life. I don’t want to enter not because I don’t love to win, I do and I do love that design, but for reasons you know. I look forward to pictures of Methow or of along the way…of reading of your impressions…your book…it will be all delightful xo

  33. Oh lady, your work is all kinds of gorgeous! I’m rather late to the games of thrones party, but I’m half way through the third book, and I can’t put it down!

  34. Hello Jillian,

Thank you for sharing so much of you with us. I’ve come to love and even cherish the parts of the universe you so fully live in.

Latest great book read: Un loup est un loup, Michel Folco (in French – such a great book!)

Hope you’ll have a wonderful, generous, safe and blessed summer. Looking forward to reading your posts,

    Patricia

  35. For the last month I have only been able to read textbooks for school. But I just picked up “This is your brain on music” and the first few chapters are great. I’m a music nerd and psychology major so…favorite subjects in one book?!? Yes please!

  36. Thank you for offering a giftaway! My favourite book is, “Fall on Your Knees” – a modern classic I think. Canadian. But I like, “The Color Purple” and “Cold Comfort Farm” as they are unique in that the books and the movies are equally entertaining. That’s rather rare.

  37. Hello from Ohio, you make my day when I read your blog, brings a smile to my face to see your beautiful pics and read your wonderous words.

  38. Music-wise I can’t get enough of the band Passenger’s album All the little lights. Track 2 Let Her Go is what I play on repeat.

An old movie I just saw that I love is, “The Best Years of our Lives”
    I think it’s from 1946.

    Bests,
    Rachel

  39. Sarah Breitenstein says

Oh lovely lady, the thought of packing up and moving AGAin and only for a few months is daunting but the cabin you are going to and the airstream you get to work in because of the migration make me swoon. The ebb and tide of our lives is amazing… So I’ve been reading books– Agatha Christie’s AND THEN THERE NONE, good in a true classic sort of way but not life changing, A Paris Wife, thought provoking but not a soul stirrer and then I randomly ordered some Spanish Guitar music via link below…and ohhhhhhh, my goodness I can’t get it out of my head. So, on your travels may the dirt roads be graded, the wind gentle, and your sunglasses big and dark and glamorous!

  40. Wishing you the safest of travels. And thank you for this great giveaway. I would not hesitate for one second to crack open a book written by the beautiful Plume. Speaking of books, my last to finish was Wild by Cheryl Strayed. The album that has been on constant repeat for almost a year in Strangeland by Keane.

I can’t wait for you to share your summer adventures with us. I know how much you love Pokey but Methow seams like a beauty too.

  41. Holy cow. This is too good to be true. I Love you blog, your work, your words…in short, I’m pretty sure I’d like to be you if I wasn’t so darn happy being me. The best book I ever read was Ahab’s Wife (the fictional story of the woman who could have been / might have been married to Captain Ahab from Moby Dick). A great book. Music…too hard a category. Favorite sound changes by mood, and possibly time of day and work to be done. As for the hummus… Always. All meals are better with chick peas and lemon (and possibly kale). Thank you so much for sharing your blog with me. It makes my happy.

  42. You are the best! Thank you so much for all you do! Your blog, your caring nature, everything. I feel I know you, and even my kids know you! “I love your necklace, Mommy!” “Jillian made it!” “Oh! Jillian! I love Jillian!” (Molly recently said this)
Anyway, I am currently rereading Anne of Green Gables!! So fun! I last read it when I was 10.
I wish you the very best summer!! LOVE that necklace! How wonderful of you!

  43. I have loved being a part of this space for the past few years. It has been a joy to watch your work evolve, read your beautiful words, and take in your beautiful images.

  51. Dearest Jillian, even though we’re just ‘blog acquaintances’ I truly believe that I discovered you and your work back in 2008 for a reason. You’ve been such a light, a presence through this crazy web-world and into mine! I’ve celebrated, cried, swooned, marveled, at your craft, life, adventures, writings, and photos. Time and time again, you pour your talent, time and heart into this space. Thank YOU for being you, and being TRUE BLUE!

My finger and toes are crossed for this one!
    Happy Trails, ladybird!
    All my love,

  52. Wishing you well in your travels to Methow Valley! 🙂

  53. You are a darling. Have a safe move, and always blare The Proclaimers, loudly with the windows open. At night, read My Faraway One, or VanGaugh’s Letters to his Brother.

    Much love,xoxox

  54. new homes take well to people who have a kitchen dance party their first night in, and a bookshelf filled with any book you can lay your hands on. (Walk Off The Earth’s new album R.E.V.O. is ideal for the aforementioned dance parties.)

wishing you an easy and happy move!

  55. You and your jewelry are so so lovely

  56. Favorite tunes as of late, I’m only slightly embarassed to admit are of the country pop variety. My dearest bff is recently enamored with Carrie Underwood, which I scoffed at in the beginning, wondering now my former ani difranco loving friend could have changed his stripes so quickly. Then he played “Cowboy Cassanova”, and “Last Name” for me on a recent visit. Now I blast them proudly and sing along in the studio…Amazing what some new tunes can do for your soul! Thanks for the opportunity to have these flowers around my neck! xoxo S

  57. Wow, how lovely! Giveaway or no, books and music are my two favorite things to talk about!
Favorite *recent* books… Flight Behavior – Barbara Kingsolver; Born to Run – Christopher McDougall
On heavy rotation…Great Big Sea’s XX (greatest hits/anniversary compilation); Mumford & Sons’ Babel
    Safe travels! 🙂

  58. Hey Jillian…
You inspire my to get on with things…
to see the small intricate beauty in all things
    to explore
to create again after many many years
and remind me to stay true to myself…not what I think/hear others want.
    Thankyou.
“Kings Of Convenience” (all of their stuff) on high rotation here for me…
    love your work…

  62. Thanks for sending the little bison nomad my way over here in Jackson Hole…now you have a whole new group of fans here in the valley – people can’t stop asking about the ring! I just finished “Refuge” by Terry Tempest Williams yesterday. What a moving, heartbreaking, and yet beautiful book. Hope your move goes smoothly – you’re headed off to one of my favorite places!

  63. Thank you for all that YOU do! These days I’ve been listening to Fiona Apple’s album with the absurdly long title: The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do. The songs “Every Single Night” and “Daredevil” are just too darn good! 🙂

  64. my dearest pen pal,
    Just this:
    1. I have to say that i have been IN STITCHES over “How to be a Woman” by Caitlin Moran.
    2. Also, you would love Cheryl Strayed’s memoir “Wild” about her 90-day solo hike on the Pacific Crest Trail taken to assist her grief over losing her mother to cancer.
    3. An amazing feminist expose “The Purity Myth: How the Virginity movement is hurting American girls.” Oh it was so riveting, enlightening, empowering, and maddening.
    4. Halfway through this heartbreaking and beautifully written memoir “The Chronology of Water” by Lidia Yunkavich.
    5. An AMAZING collection of poems by Brenda Shaughnassy called “Our Andromeda.” You can tell why I was attracted to it, also recommended by Cheryl Strayed.

Happy reading, and I can’t wait to see and hear of the progress of your work…in any and every capacity, for the rest of our precious lives.

  65. J.

it’s pure loveliness to follow along with you on your adventures and journeys 🙂
I just finished reading a little book called “Almost Amish” — a return to simpler things, which was a good reminder amoungst the busy-ness of two little ladies.

    Hope the move goes well!

  67. I’d be THRILLED to see more poetry from you! On the other hand, we kind of get poetry from you all the time; the way your brain works is poetry.

Here, since we get to say anything, I’ll say this; I started reading your blog after a friend linked me, but I was just sort of clicking on and off, until the day you posted the photo of you and your man just after he got back from firefighting… the same photo that’s under “I LOVE MY SMOKEJUMPER” now. I looked at that photo for a long moment, and I’ve checked every day to see if you’ve blogged since. Something about the way your joy just leaped at me through the screen… I couldn’t stay away after that.

  68. Hello~~~
I have never win for giveaway but I want your necklace!!!
    Love all of your works.

  69. As an Idaho girl marooned by my tenure track job in the flat midwest, I thank you for your regular photos of sage brush, ponderosa pine trees, and mountains that look like home.

I love your blog, your jewelry, your photos, your words, your airstream (wow) and your sweet pups.
Have a wonder filled summer and get to work on that book of poetry.

  82. Hi Jillian! I started perusing your shop and reading your blog after a friend of mine met you this winter on a trip west and came home to tell me that she had met someone who had the “same spirit”. It’s true. So much of your writing and lifestyle resonates deeply with me. I always look forward to your updates. So, thank YOU! I’m currently loving the album “Landings” by a local band here in MN called Portage. I really enjoy reading children’s fiction at bedtime so I’m working my way through Tom Sawyer at the moment. Safe travels and enjoy that open road!

  83. I can’t believe it’s time to return to the Valley. Why its seems you were just leaving. May you and your family have a very safe trip, settle in quickly and start rearing winged orphans as soon as possible. Additionally, safety to RW and his co-jumpers as the season begins anew.
    xoxo

  84. “Nightwoods” by Charles Frazier: Yummy!

And of course, I am still waiting for “you-know-who’s” book.

  85. Dear Jillian,
I have to thank you in return. Thank you for your generosity, for your photos, for your jewels, for you way to look out nature, for your words. Like every morning (cause yes in france it’s just the morning!) i took my cup of tea after having breakfast and i sat down with my computer to read you. Almost every morning i go on your web site to read you, and ilt’s like opening a present. So thank you.
The book i’m reading already is from an English author (but i read it in french!) called Helen Simonson: “Major Pettigrew’s last stand”, and it’s completly english , when you read it it’s like sitting near by a great fire , with a cup of tea, listening the rain falling down the windows of the cottage in the english countryside.
And for the music, the sound in my head is actually from a french singer called Vanessa Paradis, maybe you know her, and her”love songs”.Delihgtful!
I wish you a good summer season for you and your smokejumper.
Love. Al (and again sorry for my english….)

  86. hi 🙂 my best book is from clarissa pinkola estes: woman who run with the wolfes – contacting the power of the wild woman and actually i hear the wondervoice from woodkid.

thank you. i love your soul ♥

  87. Hello from across the oceans– I’m in New Zealand, where autumn has well and truly arrived, painting the world outside in shades of red and gold. Your photographs, your writing and the beautiful things you create are a constant delight to me, and to hold a little piece of your world in my hands would be truly a blessing. Thanks so much for the opportunity, and I hope your summer is filled with all the very best things. xo

  91. Hello Plume!

I can hardly believe the time has come for you to leave the gables and head west! It seems like you just got back… But, as before, I’m excited to see the changes this brings in your art and life. Just like the coming of a new season- I’m excited to see the wildflowers bloom, and to pick still-warm tomatoes… I’m sure the Methow Valley is excited to welcome you back as well.

I too would like to take a moment to give thanks, to you! For all the beauty you bring into my world. You are an inspiration- in pretty much everything that you do. When I saw the other day that you were painting on canvas, I said to myself, “Goodness! Is there anything this gal CAN’T do?” And I’m pleased to report that the answer is no! You remind me that whatever I want to do, I can do. I have everything I need, you know?

Well… Except for that darling sketch of a necklace. That would be a welcome addition to my world….

Hope your drive goes smoothly, and that Miss Maple glistens and giggles and sparkles all the way home.

    Love, Beth

OH! and PS! My current discovery from the Library was a book called “The Feast Nearby,” by Robin Mather. It’s a collection of Essays and recipes, all regarding eating locally and well. I particularly enjoyed her granola recipe, and I’m setting out to make her gingered cornmeal shortbread cookies today. Yum!

  92. ~good morning…ever so kind is the heart and mind of yours…your first spring skeleton piece brought me from my quietness so here i am once more…

though tis not a book i do believe it could very well be…your writing of “fire wife” was moving beyond words…your words weaved within emotions painted a picture for all of us to see and feel…a glimpse of your life as a fire wife…was beautiful

The Time Travelers Wife was the last book I read…its one I find myself re~reading every now and again…

I wish you and yours well and you embark on your summer travels back to the valley…much love light and blessings shining brightly upon you~

  93. what a lovely necklace to offer!

just finished the handmaid’s tale. not too long and worth the read.

  94. Good luck with your move this year! I love following your blog.

  95. Hey, Jilian,
I keep loving your blog and your art for more than two years now, whiuch I’m sure is no news, because you’re lovely:) But since you suggested also saying something concrete, I thought I’d share my all time favorite and constantly recurring musical addiction with the Complete Last Concert of the Modern Jazz Quartet. I just never get tired of listening to it. And while it might be more urban, than your art and words, it sometimes puts me in a similar mood:) So there! PLus, I love this necklace, which I would never be able to afford probably, but I can at least enjoy the look of it here:)
    smiles
    Neda

  96. It makes me really pleased to think of you writing for publication this Summer.

As far as books, just finished a collection of essays by Pam Houston “A Little More About Me.” And the first 2 books in the Divergent series by Veronica Roth were fun and fast reads. Musically, been downloading all the songs from the Nashville tv show, most of which are produced by T-Bone Burnett. Good stuff.
Safe travels to you and your pack,
    Rachel

  112. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson is a deceptively simple story full of beauty, spirit, and heartache. As the inscription says it’s “for the girls with messy hair and thirsty hearts”. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long time, and stayed with me long after I read it.

Wishing you safe travels and a happy summer!

  113. Sharrod Stewart says

  114. I love your blog and fully agree with whomever told you to publish. Your writing takes me to a different world. Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in city-living/preschooler-raising. Reading your blog posts reminds me that there is peace, deep thought, beauty-in-nature and open space somewhere out there. I’ll get back there. Someday. and I’ll bring my babies with me. Until then, I’ll let your writing take me on it’s wings when I need a breather. and try to revel in what I’ve got right now. (My son just turned to me and said, “I love to jump.” There is beauty in that simplicity, too, right?) 🙂

  115. As always you amaze me with your craftsmanship.
I have been listening to alot of ‘of monsters & men’ ‘Lumineers’ & mumford all on Vinyl which is the only way to go.

Have loved all your words, pictures and wonderful jewellery since finding your blog in the fall, and you have captured my heart and I look forward to seeing how you live your life on a daily basis. I personally yearn to live in the west again and you keep that spark so alive everyday when I see you on the mountaintops. I’ve just finished reading Emily Carr’s lighthearted book “The Heart of a Peacock”, (she has certain ways of seeing her world that seem similar to you), and am listening and dancing to Earth, Wind and Fire. Saw them play last weekend in Windsor, Ontario and have their songs playing in my studio as I work away. Give a listen, it’s old school funk but so good you can’t help but move. Hope your move is safe and your new homestead a welcome sight, looking forward to seeing it. Happy day.

  150. Dear, Sweet Jillian,
Have you ever read the journals of May Sarton? Personally, your writing appeals to me more but I often think of her when I am reading your tender, insightful, sometimes raw accounts of the moments of your life. You really are a gifted artist. You are much younger than I so I can look forward to your words and art accompanying me for as long as I am in this world. I like that idea.

I guess that is a good problem! I wish I could say that I have read a great book lately, but I haven’t. Lately when I get a chance to read, it is always a cooking magazine. I am obsessed with them and subscribe to far too many! I LOVE this necklace, but I know only one luck person will get it–so good luck all. Have a wonderful summer!

  190. Jillian,
I’m so excited you get to return to Wa. The PNW has my heart and always will. I have spent some time in the method valley, few places compare to the dramatic beauty it holds. One place that does, and I think would be very inspiring for you as an artist are the San Juan islands. Born and raised there, I never cease to be amazed by the loamy damp forests, the rocky beaches and the slower way of living. Happy trails, enjoy your summer.

  191. Oh Jillian! You are amazing! Thank you for being the amazing radiant splendiferous YOU that you are, and not only that, but sharing yourself and your life with all of us so beautifully. Happy moving! I hope it is as exciting and hitch-free as possible. Let’s see… I am reading a series of mystery novels by Jacqueline Winspear. They are set in England in the 1920s… kind of like Upstairs Downstairs or Downton Abbey… but featuring a woman detective. I have been enjoying them on the deck in the sun with a glass of home-brew iced tea. 🙂

  192. Louise Hussey says

Hello Jillian, I’m loving this series! Currently reading Crimson China which i picked up in the library. It’s a story based around a cockling disaster (cockles are shellfish, do you have them in US?) which occurred in Morcambe Bay in the North of England where 21 Chinese illegal immigrants died. Not as depressing as it sounds! The focus is on the three central characters and their relationships. Listening to lots of music in my car, First aid kit, Led zep, The Bees and in the house Cate le Bon and Delta Swamp rock xxx

  198. Hello Jillian!
Until now, I was just a silent reader. Not for any reason in particular, it’s just that I’m not used to speak or write in english, as I’m from Argentina.
I got to know your blog thanks to another blogger from here, and since then, I just can’t stop entering to see if you’ve posted something new, or seeing once again and again all your beautiful works of art and love. It complete and absolutely inspires me! I already spoke of you to some friends and even my mother! I just can’t believe what you do, it’s very beautiful.
I believe such things are priceless and at the same time I understand every piece of work deserves and needs to have its own value (speaking of money). In Argentina our local value of money is completely devaluated so, although I’d LOVE to buy some creation of yours, just to carry within myself something made by your hands and admire its beauty everyday, I just can’t afford it (at least nowadays, maybe in the future…).

Anyway, I found this thankful giveaway of yours an opportunity for me to get a treasure from you. Thanks for sharing yourself with us, I love to read you and see with all my self each new thing you create.

    Greetings and love from Argentina!

  199. Hi
    thank you

  200. What a beautiful necklace Jillian – just love it! A light delight of a book I’ve recently read is Miss Buncle’s Book by D.E. Stevenson written in 1934, set in a small village in England. The premise – a spinster’s dividends have run out and in desperation writes a book about her village/villagers to provide some income. She writes truthfully and innocently about her neighbors and doesn’t quite understand why some of her readers find her book hilarious and some are quite angry about it. (She doesn’t sufficiently hide her characters identities as the pseudonyms are quite similar to their real names 🙂 Anyway, it’s the kind of book that makes you want to sit down with the author for a chat over a cream tea. Just wonderful!

  201. I just finished reading Damascus Nights, and while it isn’t one of my favorite books, it did introduce me to the music of Umm Kulthum. I’m a little embarrassed that I hadn’t heard of her before, but now I can’t get enough of her voice, inflection; the instruments. Immediately transported to the other side of the world.

  202. Jillian you are lovely. Thanks for getting me through so many life humps and motivating me to enjoy them.

  203. So beautiful and generous, Jillian. Thank you!
It’s been awhile since I read it, but Cutting for Stone is still the best thing I’ve read recently. Best of luck with the move this summer!

  204. Dear Jillian, thank you so much for your beautiful and inspiring words, pictures and artwork!

  205. Hello! I am absolutely smitten with Alabama Shakes right now. Her voice booms confidence and joy-and they are quite a sight to see live! Thank you for allowing those of us who have not had the chance to wear a piece of your art to do so.

  206. Love the necklace, love your giving heart, love reading all these recommendations! That’s a lot of love!

I recently read “To the Wedding” by John Berger and liked it very much.

I’m going to treasure your book. In fact, I already do.

  207. Dear Jillian,
You have such a beautiful and bright spirit. Thank you for being you and sharing all your wonderfully inspiring work, writing and adventures with us all! Wishing the best of luck to you as you journey to your new home.

  208. Oh and I last read Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and have been listening to Lake Street Dive and the folk duo Shovels and Rope. Fantastic music. 🙂

  209. You’re awesome.

Hiya! I’ve stalked your work for many, MANY moons – we’re on our honeymoon right now, driving up and down the California coast like beautifully insane people. On our travels, we stopped by an amazing winery called Harvet Moon, met a young lady with my own first name, and bought a CD based soley on her referral – Alison Harris “Smoke Rings in the Sky” … it has accompanied us for 3 days and is endless and wonderful. Easy folk listening with open, harmonious trills of everyday life. I think you will love it.

Also, if you’re ever in Santa Rosa, you should go to the Charles M Schulz museum … it’s a hoot 😉

  211. thanks for sharing your beautiful art and thoughts! lately i’ve been digging medicine for the people’s new album, dark as night.

  212. Carole King on repeat. Brautigans words before I slumber. Mechanical Pencil and markers in my hand for the world to see.

  213. I recently read Annie Proulx’s book, Birdcloud. It’s about her buying land and building a house on it in the wilds of Wyoming.

Love your blog, always and forever! So much inspiration to be found on its pages.

  214. Wishing you a summer of wonderful creativity and your smokejumper a summer of safe days…

  215. I’ve been listening to the album “Songbird” by Eva Cassidy. Love, love her soulful voice. And I’ve been reading “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed and “Spontaneous Happiness” by Dr. Andrew Weil. I usually sit down on Monday mornings, right after dropping the kids off at school, to read your posts. It’s been close to a year now and I have enjoyed your writing so much. Thank you. 🙂

  216. Oh gosh…. not much time to read around here lately as the sun is finally shining, the leaves are out and the garden(s) must be planted. Spring is very late here in Northern Manitoba!!
One of my very favorites is “Book of Negros”. I tell everyone to read it. I was totally captivated by the story.
Safe travels this summer…. all the best to you and yours.
    Stay well.

  217. “A New Earth”, by Eckhart Tolle changed my life.
Thank you for this generous offering! All the best to you and your lovely family

    Hi Jillian!
LOVE your writing and work! Best wishes to you and safe travels. 🙂

  219. I love your space. I didn’t at first because I was envious, but over time I began to see how down to earth you are and I appreciate both your work and your writing. I love how you see things and wish you would write a memoir or a book of essays that could be taken from the blog. Someday I am going to hit the blog at the right moment to catch a piece of your jewelry before it is snatched up from your shop. Coming here is both a respite and an inspiration.

Just remember this, above all else: You done it before, you’re doing it now, and you could possibly do it in the future. God doesn’t give you anything you can’t handle. Only things that make you stronger. And you, my strong woman of the wild (ha!) are strong.
P.S. remember what you said? Be RW’s Fire Wife 🙂
    Good blessings.

    Jilly Sue,
I hope this note finds you well and that your move to the forest is smooth! I did a winter seeding of poppies and I am certain one will bloom this weekend with a little sun that’s predicted. I can’t wait. I also want you to pick me to win this necklace, oh what luck that would be! Have an amazing weekend, BABE! xoxo, Biz

ps. Hubs said our next puppy after this one may have to be a GSP, because he liked the size of Tater!!!!

  226. Oh Dear{est}…
    Am I too late?
I thought of you today…Something in the way the clouds moved…
    xo

  227. It’s a lunar eclipse and the joints in my fingers are out of breath from scrolling down to enter this here comment.
Right now I’m finishing a brilliant read about a saxophone-playing bear who quotes Rumi — The Bear Comes Home by Rafi Zabor which ended up winning the PEN/Faulkner Award, and it was Zabor’s first novel.
Have fun on your rolling travels, Plume. You’re a soul vivante. A moon with a waggedy tail…

  228. What a generous giveaway! After writing this comment I will listen to soft jazz on my tunein app on my iphone, while I read 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. While I do that, I will cross my fingers. I would love to win this beautiful piece by your hand. I wear my Specimen earring almost every day.

  229. …always so generous, with your writings/musing and your giveaways! I hope you’re settling into your Summer Routine well. I think it would be hard to move, especially after reading about your love for your Idaho.
Reading ‘The Rainbow’ by DH Lawrence right now. I just put the book down, and am curiously surprised how well DH seems to understand women. Perhaps he just understood humanity. Anyway, it’s a pretty good read– nice to read some pretty language.

  230. It is always so fantastic when you decide to do a giveaway- thank you for your generosity!

I am currently reading Stephen King’s short story, “The Body,” which conjures up everything fantastic about Summer as an adolescent…“A great whispering noise began to rise in the woods on either side of the tracks, as if the forest had just noticed we were there and was commenting on it.” Adventures, epiphanies, mistakes, risks, lessons, heart… forming deep bonds with other people who are over-flowing with life,
“I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12 – Jesus, did you?”

  231. Love, love, love you!
I’m currently listening to “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on repeat because I’m playing the narrator in an upcoming production! Do you remember back when we were wee, when we auditioned as a choir with Miss Phoebe?

  232. have loved your blog since i stumbled on it back in 09 after purchasing a gorgeous necklace from your shop. you are beautiful jillian. and the album currently on repeat for me is Through the Deep, Dark Valley by The Oh Hello’s.

  233. I am loving “let’s explore diabetes with owls” by David Sedaris… He always make me laugh. love to you plume and good luck with your move. I can’t wait for the wonderful pictures that will come from there 🙂

  234. Hello dear Jillian,
Your blog and your photos, your art and your connection with nature and your generous soul make me happy! Yours is the only blog I read regularly, and I come here when I want to rejuvenate my soul. Thank you for your lovely gift to the world, many lives are much richer for it.

  235. Howdy! I, too, just made my annual summer move–south to the Tetons! I am an avid reader, checking your blog is a favorite schoolwork procrastination technique of mine : ) Currently, I am reading “Rambunctious Garden” by Emma Marris–which I think you would love–exploring a reinvention of our definitions of wildness & nature to include those flourishing green, abandoned lots on the outskirts of town, proliferous non-native species, and even manicured tree plantations. It is a radical call to action–but a proactive & optimistic one!

  236. Although it’s sad to go away from hearth and home I know how much you LOVED your time last summer and know that you can expect new joys and adventures this summer. Have a safe trip!

  237. wishing as always for a gift of your art…
    tender piece of love.

  238. Hey J, here’s to a great summer …YEEHAR cowgirl!! X

  242. Nichelle Scoggin-Labrum says

    Hi love,
My dear friend Louisa roams this earth adorned by your beautiful creations. Your works are splendid. I have been watching your etsy account fascinated by your creative genius.
In a round-about way I stumbled upon your blog of being married to fire today. I too married fire. Somehow, I think my firefighter marriage came from needing someone to put out my fiery little mama badger qualities. I am fire element and he is water. He teaches me to bend and fold, & graceful ways to rage and fall. I teach him to glow and create your own paths, burning over the tops or creeping the floors. The balance is beautiful.
Your writing reminded me of the summer ahead, here we go! Ooo those sweet nights of that elusive smokey man crawling into bed w me and the passion that follows. And those lonely long weeks of my babies asking if daddy put the fire out yet. Here we go!
Here’s to an amazing summer with our loves safe -cheers-
My creative genius comes in the form of bodywork/massage/healing, come see me if that man is feeling broke after another season of jumps. That’s where my fiery badger medicine is most productive.
    Hope to meet someday,
    Nichelle in Pocatello

  243. thank you! thank you for your words, your images and your work.

  244. The Compassionate Mind by Paul Gilbert. It will change your life, trust me! Well, my odds aren’t great of winning this beautiful necklace, but here goes!
