Inside Miss Maple

I am almost fully functioning in the studio space.
Feels good….kind of like cashing out at the Colorado River Indian Tribe casino after playing the penny slots all night with M.
A little silly.  A little tired.  A little blooming pink in the late night.  Laughter, too.
I love the penny slots.  I love M, too.  But I love M more than the penny slots.  A lot more.
RW strolls past the Airstream and knocks on the windows whenever he gets home from the base at the end of the day.  He says it’s pretty nice to see me working in Miss Maple — it’s a return he’s finally seeing after all his (our) manual labor this winter past.  I love the space.  It glows.  I can’t explain it fully, but the light is serene and divine, no matter the time of day, and it feels really good.  It sounds vague, as I read those words aloud to myself, but I continue to fail to find the perfect description for the space.  After all our moving upheaval and limbo, I feel like we’re settling beautifully and while the dust is falling all around, the mountains are shining white and the rivers are washing everything away.
Gosh…say it with me now:
Life is good.

  16. Thank you for the gorgeous photos… as others have said, the mobile studio is incredible. And, you have a velvet chair in the corner… oh, sorry~ that’s just Penelope with her velvety self!!!! love-

  17. Oh, Maple! Where did you source your blue floors, may I ask?
And sweet gracious I want me a sleepy weenie dog.

    • Of course! I’m not sure about the place they came from so I’ll ask RW to help me dig that info up for you this evening once he is home from work.

  18. I just love that glow! It’s so pretty! I especially love those little pops of color from the blanket and pillow! It’s perfect.

  20. Wow! Jillian. It looks wonderful. I think I would be too distracted by the beauty of the airstream.

  21. how nice to have a busy side and a quiet/still side in the workspace. good thinkin’!

  22. Very ohlala! So glad to hear that you’re enjoying where you are! Sounds amazing, hey 🙂

  23. Life is SO good!
I said it on Flickr and I’ll say it here, too, this summer home of yours is utterly delightful and inspiring! 🙂

  24. Haul her on down here and we’ll get back to those penny slots! Love you 😉

  25. It looks even more beautiful in the daylight with all the colors…PS I love Miss Maple, it’s a name that truly fits!

  26. I feel like you need time to settle in your new unsettled life in your new home…I imagine you feel strange and satisfied at the same time…enjoying this adventure and change…oh yes! life’s good!

  27. It was borne out of necessity, and a lot of hard work, but it strikes me that your Airstream has become the ultimate luxury: a fully functioning creative space on wheels. It’s lovely that you, your hubby, and Miss Maple are anchored for the summer… but, oh, the places you’ll go. Enjoy!

    • It IS a luxury! I could work fine in a bug and mouse infested garage somewhere in the valley…that’s how I started out…but Maple is much nicer!

  28. Boltsense says

So nice to see you settled and to know that at the end of the day you are together.

  29. I love the picture of Penelope curled up in the chair like a cat!

  30. Wow love the finish ~ I didn’t realise she was going to be your studio space ~ I’m in envy 😉

    • She is exclusively a studio space for the next couple of years. Phase one with her restoration is complete but I’ve told RW I can’t handle a big renovation project this winter on the house or the Airstream. I need a break. So we won’t get to building the kitchen galley, tables and bathroom until winter 2014.

  31. Looks wonderful in that magical little space! I was just wondering if you have air conditioning in there somewhere? A metal roof could make it awfully hot! Glad to hear you’re both settled in nice and happy!

    • I don’t have any AC. I do have two ceiling fans that push and pull air through the entire trailer. I have a feeling when it gets REALLY hot here this summer I’ll probably have to work in the morning or in the late evenings to avoid cooking. 🙂

  32. The tap tap tapping on the windows upon his arrival…the pitter patter of your heart. And I love the blue cabinet, how it matches that nice floor. Sweet casita.

  33. Thank you all SO MUCH for your kind thoughts about Maple. She’s positively GLEAMING this morning! I’m so glad to have you in my world. Thank you for popping by. xx

  34. Oh Jillian, this post makes me so happy — to think of a space that could be so marvelous, created by your own hands (and RW’s, of course!), to be lived in with exuberance, to be the home of things created. I’m so excited that you will be making so many things there, and being inspired by the natural world and summery lovelovelove!

May I have your new address? I would like to write you back and send you little things, too. I keep your letter in my journal and my brain builds things to tell you.

    xx

Love this so much!!!! Congratulations on the outcome. It does look like a lot of work. Beautiful floor and other splashes of colour. xo

  36. it is a very good thing that I was sitting down when I read this post just now….. my little synapses are firing crazy like and my fingertips are ready for so much clicking… oh my.
