Big Color

I managed to do a bit of enamel work this morning, man oh man, it felt good.  I’m keen on big color lately.  We’ve had a couple weeks of warm weather here and when I look out the studio window the world is awash with drab colors and a pale grey sky.  In the distance, the mountains loom white but they can’t pull me out of moods that are sometimes rooted in color desperation.  Someone please, pour this chromaphile a rainbow.

When times get color rough, I make my own color.
Big color.

These earrings are really rather huge but they maintain a pretty light feel on the lobe.  They’re enameled a glorious nasturtium orange hue and have a glamorous weight and length.  I created them for a lady who beckons spring, bathes her soul in color, and eagerly awaits the banishment of the winter hum drum drabs!

Built of sterling, copper and enamel.
Hydraulically formed, hand sawed and sifted, counter enameled and fired multiple times.
They’ll be in the shop in a few scant minutes!
xx

PS  Orange makes me bonkers batty cakes.
Is anyone else affected thusly by the hue?

I am for one, I see that colour and I want to devour persimmons, or wear them around my ears. I am so glad there is a big persimmon tree next to the house we'll living in france. Come september we'll have our baskets full, and I think you should stay with us

Going to France means getting on an airplane……I don't know if I can make myself do that.
I have been dreaming of a trip to Frenchville though and was contemplating driving my truck to Montreal this summer…..

The truest temptation here is the thought of those persimmons. I'll get back to you in a bit on the topic of Paris.

I love the shapes you have for your hollow forms! They're gorgeous! I imagine you having all these acrylic dies hanging around the studio 🙂 That's how I make mine, anyway…which means that I rarely make them as acrylic gets EVERYWHERE.

That orange is gorgeous! You are a true inspiration, my dear!

  4. Hello Jilian!
I dont use much of colours rater more black than colours but those earings are just lovely!

Have a lovely and creative week!

    warm hugs

  5. Orange is my color (maybe that explains my fall fixation and quest to grow a 1000 pound pumpkin). Beautiful earrings both in hue and form

  6. Orange orange, maple leaf orange, blazing orange, deep bright orange…yes indeed!

I miss color too. I spent the day in a garden just hoping that somehow the action of sitting in a sleeping garden will help me remember what it is alike when it is awake.
I have an interesting relationship with Orange. It is so invigorating but sometimes too overwhelming.

But you have managed to make it look amazing. The shape and color just fit perfectly into this time of year.

  8. Oh well, just popped in to say that I got the strangest feeling when noticing this because I have had this song in my head,

    it's by Tori Amos

    (guessing already?)

    The Power of Orange Knickers

and what have we got here? ORANGE. Yay!

Still. The strangest feeling. Orange it is.
