7I9A3176Sometimes you just have to keep moving

to be free

to be anything.

It’s the wind

you know

the movement of stiff air

over the soul

that gives a sensation of passage

a sense of leaving things behind

and moving onward

to meet what is

ahead.

I always envy the quadrupeds, the way their four feet are on the earth, on the wind, on the inbetweens.

Their speed.  Their ability to leap over danger, over the sunset, over anything…

Four legs really are better than two.

Comments

  1. you are pure soul :: don’t ever forget it.

  2. I used to ride horses as a kid, and the thing I miss most about it was the feeling of absolute pure fear/freedom when I gave Misty free reign to just -run-. We’d gallop pellmell down the grass floodplain in the middle of the cornfield and I never felt so free as when I was being carried along by her four legs.

  3. Elizabeth Waggoner says

I miss horses in my life. Your beautiful photos bring them back.

  4. so many things here to carry me away in reverie…
the plush on the rump, winter coat coming in to insulate against cold, snow and ice.
the position of all four feet, one on the ground and three in the air. it’s the two upturned hooves that seem so vulnerable, frogs exposed, makes me feel i’m holding them in my hand while the trusting horse lets me clean its feet.
the fifty shades of green in the pasture grasses, tinged with autumn golds. and another thirty shades of gray in the overcast sky.
floating on your words i feel the wind in my face, through my soul. i don’t ordinarily like wind, find it unsettling, but here now, today, in this moment it is somehow a welcome wind.

  5. Hello Jillian,

  6. The wind. It really does play an important role, in so many ways. It’s a motivator.
I love that all four hooves leave the ground when a horse runs. A little like flying!
I love that velvet rump of your Saskatoonie steed! 🙂

  7. yes indeed…
then I start going through the quadrupeds I know and started making a list that became funny

    freedom is sweet x

  8. Cute butt. 🙂
On a slightly more serious note, we always have the wind.
