Rich Enough

IMG_1539IMG_1384IMG_1473 IMG_1488 IMG_1492IMG_1529-2IMG_1446IMG_1559IMG_1590These past few days, I have been rich enough to:

eat breakfast in a diner

swim in a lake filled with cold, clean water

sleep in dirt on a mountain with my girlfriends

watch the dawn start its glowing rise at 3:30AM

run my dogs through wildflowers

grill delicious hamburgers

squander my time watching a garden grow

smell roses

sip wine

listen to the bees bumble

eat strawberries warm from the vine

drive with the air conditioning on in the truck

I am rich.  I am rich enough.

Maybe, we always have enough, even when we don’t believe it.

Are you rich enough?  How do you count your wealth?

  1. yes!

    love and light lovely

  2. i count my wealth in very personal ways, but *this i know :: it’s best counted when i first open my eyes in the morning, listen for the neighbour’s rooster to sing up the sun, and then i roll out of bed onto my knees, giving thanks for what i already have and what i *shall be given….

    xx

  3. This morning, for the first time in a long time, I was taking time to be thankful, out loud, for what I have. It was such a refreshing way to start the day and a wonderful motivator to carry on.

But really, now I just have the Rolling Stones stuck in my head: “…am I rich enough?”

  4. I can wander outside to my barn, with my beloved animals and fill both body and soul with fresh, healthy food from happy animals and a wee garden: milk, eggs, fresh cheese, fruits and vegetables.
The light of June, the nights filled with fire-flies.
The love and friendship of a good man.
I am blessed and wealthy in so many ways.

  5. your photographs are so beautiful. It’s like they come alive right before my eyes but they are still still and not moving. I love looking at them.

  6. I live in an expensive city but always seems to have enough money to do the things I love to do: (and much of the reason why I live in SF) attending a symphony production, seeing a ballet performance or eating at a special restaurant. And in this crowded place, I’ve carved a little garden that attracts hummingbirds all day long— I could watch them and their antics for hours, no attendance fee! Many of them now have names…

  7. I am a happy person who lives where she wanted to, and that’s already a real luck.
Summer and especially the month of June with its very long days, time spent at the beach with friends swimming in the (Pacific north) ocean that is already as hot as it is in July!!! beautiful sunsets, sunrise…flowers everywhere, birds, deer, veggies in the garden..I feel lucky, so may be I am. Wishing everyone a great summer!!!

  8. Beautiful!!
I make a point of writing down in my journal every month what I’m thankful for, it can be the tiniest thing, like “finding half an hour to sit and read a book” this exercise reminds me that I am truly rich 🙂

  9. My luxury is time. Most people never have enough. I just take me some here and there. And these moments outdoors, they make me rich. So rich.
    Thanks!

Amen sister- er- niece. I do miss the early sunrises from the west. Especially this time of year. Thanks for sharing

  11. I waffle. Thanks to the day-to-day stuff I routinely feel like we’re just getting by, but there are times when I watch my daughter FINALLY start to scoot across the floor on her own, or listen to her babble-sounds as she’s feeling out what sounds mean what to us, or those blissful mornings Jason and I wake up before she does and we can just kind of be there in bed together, or when I throw the squeaky-bone and watch my dog just TAKE OFF… or when we see our pumpkin plant vines spiraling out and away and the tiniest green buds of what will first be flowers and then be the pumpkins themselves…

    Those moments I feel rich.

Then, of course, I get the next round of bills in the mail 😉 but I try to swing from rich moment to rich moment and only spend the mental energy n the bills that is absolutely necessary.

  12. Oh Good Morning J!

Gratitude – without it there can be no wealth, with it wealth is beyond measure.

I’m grateful for you – you add a richness to the world. Keep on being you.

Hi there! A friend passed along your blog to me & I’ve enjoyed following it greatly. I really am drawn to and inspired by the way you blend your creative arts with your time spent outside, and some really awesome word-smithing.

This post just really captured the essence of summer for me. I live in Vermont so I really relate to packing all those great hallmarks of summer into an often fleeting window of time and building in ample pauses to be thankful for all of the special summer moments. This week I am thankful to be rich enough to have had a good long visit with my brother who lives far away. We spent the time hiking and seeking out swimming holes.

Thanks for the share and keep up the great work!

I may be out of my element for a while here in the middle, but being here has made a lot of the reparation of some life difficulties possible. It’s getting easier all the time and for that I am grateful. Like Fraulein Rucksack, I’m blessed with time. Though I work full time my evenings and weekends are all my own for writing, creating – whatever. Yup! Enough!
    Enough is Plenty!!!

  15. I feel richer just reading your words. Lovely post, woman. xx

  16. You are a treasure Jillian <3

  17. I love you <3 <3
Sooo many hearts! Love laughter and light to you always……..
Gonna get me one of your I love your soul bags ONE day xo

  18. Yes! I love that you use the word rich. It reminds me there is definitely a certain privilege that enables this lifestyle which can be so enriching. I wish this kind of communion and joy for everyone.

  19. Aaaaaw this sounds like absolute bliss. Totally agree, we are much richer than we think we are. Simple pleasures rock. Right now I feel very rich, rich for being able to spend oodles of time with my very poorly father, for having a fantastic sister I can share this crazy life with, for having work I love and making a difference, for feeling overjoyed at looking at clouds. xox

  20. I am rich enough to take a break from the garden and read your post while eating fish picked salad! Thanks for the reminder that I am wealthy beyond compare!
